Natalie Saccu de Franchi architect film-maker/editor
ArtsIceland 17.9 – 23.10 2016 Natalie aka ML is an architect and film maker/editor. She lives and works in Paris. Her first short film Diatomée (2005) was swiftly turned into a ‘corps-métrage’ concept, which is how she defines her work. After that she moved on to the triptych titled Claire Obscure (2009) and Malojá (2010) thanks to various collaborations. One being with Steven Severin for Malojá during the Nouveau Cinéma Festival of Montreal in October 2010 and at the London Tate Britain in December 2010. ML was at the ArtsIceland residency in Ísafjörður in september 2016 to work on an experimental video called Hollie, an ever-drifting woman to an eruptive birth. Facebook: Monade Li / ML Roosmarijn Tuenter musician ArtsIceland 15.8 – 2.10 2016 Roosmarijn Tuenter is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer. Inspired by nature's vastness and its detail, she captures these elements in intimate songs, with explosive passages and an expressive performance. In 2013 she started studying ‘Musician 3.0’ (Creating, Performing, Communicating) at the Conservatory in Utrecht, Holland. Since then she’s been doing research on how to play her viola in a non-conventional way, by adding pedals and looking for new sounds and ways of song writing. Another big interest is improvisation and she’s been giving various workshops about this subject. www.roosmarijnmusic.com |
Natalie Wood digital/multimedia artist
ArtsIceland 25.7 – 7.8 2016 Natalie Wood is an artist who creates room-filled projections, miniature dioramas, and holograms. She is interested in incorporating video into sculpture, making ordinary objects seem extraordinary, and evoking ideas of magic and discovery for viewers. Natalie was raised in southern California, received her BFA in Studio Art from Brigham Young University in 2014 and is currently working on her MFA in Digital Art at the University of Oregon. She lives and works in Eugene, Oregon. |
Jenifer Wightman artist and biologist
ArtsIceland 19.8 – 26.8 2015 Jenifer Wightman is a scientist specializing in greenhouse gas inventories and life cycle analysis of agronomic systems at Cornell University. She teaches Sustainable Systems at Parsons. Her art practice began in 2002 and employs scientific tropes to incite curiosity of ecological phenomena. Informed by her scientific inquiry, her art poetically articulates the incongruities between our current economic growth paradigm (conceptually unlimited) and our emerging notion of sustainability (limited by finite resources). Jenifer Wightman´s work captures a visual language of embodied form moving through cycles of destruction and creation within a finite landscape. She is interested in forming an ecological rationality by reflecting on the co-evolution of a culture and its supporting ecosystem. http://www.audiblewink.com/ |
Åsa Ståhl and Kristina Lindström artists and researchers
ArtsIceland 3.8 – 10.8 2015 Kristina Lindström, PhD in interaction design, and Åsa Ståhl, PhD in media and communication studies, are artists and researchers. They are currently postdocs at Umeå Institute of Design, Umeå University and senior lecturers at the School of Arts and Communication, Malmö University. They have collaborated since 2003 in a joint artistic as well as academic practice. In 2014 they defended a collaborative and practice-based thesis across disciplines, which was based on a travelling sewing circle www.misplay.se. Lindström and Ståhl have explored how hands-on making can facilitate collaborative co-articulations of emergent issues of living with mundane technologies. They have exhibited and presented their work internationally in contexts spanning hacking, e-waste, cultural heritage, participatory design, feminist technoscience and media archaeology. Lindström and Ståhl are currently partners in the artistic research project HYBRID MATTERs where they host public engagement events and work towards an exhibition that will travel to the Nordic countries in 2016. www.hybridmatters.net. |
Project in collaboration with ArtsIceland:
Plastiglomerate walks in Iceland August 4 – 9 2015 This is part of the artistic research project HYBRID MATTERs: www.hybridmatters.net. HYBRID MATTERS is a digital art project that explores the fusion of the digital, the technological and the organic. The artists behind the project offer their take on what happens to everyday life at a time when smartphones, social networks, robots, GPS navigation and surveillance increasingly encroach on the environment, nature and human beings. They approach digital technology via bioart. The Finnish Society of Bioart, the artist co-operative Forum Box, the IT University of Copenhagen, the Swedish artists/researchers Åsa Ståhl and Kristina Lindström and Kunsthall Grenland in Telemark were selected as recipients of the NORDIC CULTURAL EVENT OF THE YEAR – DIGITAL 2015–16. |
